Why Do Fundermax's Certifications Matter?
When specifying materials, architects and designers rely on proof of a material’s quality and performance capability. Strong certifications offer assurance that a product will perform to rigorous global standards for safety, sustainability, and durability.
At Fundermax, these credentials are not a formality, but a reflection of our commitment to responsible manufacturing and high-performance architectural solutions. For more than 130 years, Fundermax has built its reputation on engineering panels that perform across interior, exterior, and laboratory environments.
In this blog, we’ll share third-party certifications that matter and which ensures transparency, traceability, and complete confidence at every stage of a project’s development.
Forest Stewardship (FSC & PEFC)
When you choose a wood-based material with an FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) label, you ensure that the material’s wood is sustainably sourced from ethically managed forests.
Two significant FSC certifications are Forest Management and Chain of Custody Certifications. Forest Management Certification from the FSC demonstrates that a forest used for production is managed per the FSC’s principles and criteria regarding legal compliance, environmental impact, recognition of indigenous peoples’ lands, and more.

-
Chain of Custody: The Chain of Custody Certification from the FSC verifies that lumber products follow the proper channels from forest to processing to consumers.
Fundermax only uses FSC-certified materials, meaning all of our lumber products meet sustainable, responsible production and processing standards. Our panels consist of about 65% wood fiber, a testament to our foundation of sustainable forestry.
Specifying FSC and PEFC products shows commitment to sustainable forestry and can contribute to LEED MRc “Building Product Disclosure and Optimization Sourcing of Raw Materials” under “Leadership Extraction Practices”. For designers and sustainability consultants, this level of transparency makes documentation and compliance simpler and more reliable.
Material Transparency & Green Building (EPD, HPD, Recycled Content)
In today’s design landscape, material transparency is non-negotiable. Two important documents to look for regarding transparency are Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs), which provide profiles of a product’s life-cycle impacts and material ingredients.
Fundermax publishes EPDs and HPDs for key panel lines, providing architects with evidence for the materials’ environmental impact and material health. Max Compact Interior and Exterior panels have EPDs (EN 15804-compliant) and HPDs that can earn LEED material disclosure points.
Max Compact Interior panels are LBC Red List Approved, meaning 99 percent of their ingredients and residuals present at or above 100ppm or 0.01 percent have been disclosed. Fundermax products carry a Declare Label from the International Living Future Institute, demonstrating our openness about what goes into our products and how they perform throughout their life cycle.
Fundermax panels can also potentially contribute to LEED Materials & Resources credits for recycled content and responsible material sourcing.
Indoor Air Quality
Indoor environments like schools, healthcare spaces, and laboratories benefit from materials with strict VOC (volatile organic compound) controls.
Max Compact Interior phenolic panels meet UL GREENGUARD Gold (UL 2818), a stringent certification that indicates ultra-low emissions of VOCs and aldehydes and compliance with green building standards for indoor air quality. Fundermax’s interior wall lining panels have been rigorously tested to achieve this certification, a testament to our commitment to protecting both the environment and interior space users.
In addition, Fundermax explicitly never adds urea-formaldehyde to its resins, further eliminating toxic off-gassing and supporting healthier indoor environments.
ISO Management System Certifications
Fundermax’s manufacturing philosophy is built on consistency, workplace safety, and continuous improvement. These principles are upheld by our suite of ISO certifications:
-
ISO 9001: Quality Management
-
ISO 14001: Environmental Management
-
ISO 45001: Occupational Health & Safety
-
ISO 50001: Energy Management
These certifications demonstrate that our production facilities operate with documented controls, responsible resource management, and rigorous safety and quality assurance systems. For specifiers, ISO certifications provide peace of mind that each panel is produced with the same level of reliability, environmental stewardship, and worker safety.
Fundermax has five manufacturing plants in Austria utilizing the latest manufacturing technology to be the industry leader in laminate panel production.
Fire Safety & Building Code Compliance
Safety and code compliance are paramount in modern construction. Fundermax panels have been tested rigorously and comply with many requirements, giving architects peace of mind through each phase of design.
Max Compact Exterior, Max Compact Interior F-Quality, and Max Resistance² are Class A-rated under the ASTM E84 test, a crucial standard in ensuring fire safety and compliance with building codes.
Fundermax also has a full Intertek Code Compliance Research Report for all of our commercial exterior façade systems, evidence to architects and contractors that our products and systems meet the most up to date 2024 IBC code requirements and standards.
Fundermax panels are NFPA 285 compliant when installed with approved Fundermax exterior fastening systems listed in the Intertek CCRR Report.
Whether forestry, indoor-air quality, management systems, or fire code, each of these certifications adds reassurance for architects and installers. By working with Fundermax, decision-makers deal with a manufacturer whose processes and products are proven by international standards. These certifications are a testament to Fundermax’s product quality and emphasis on being ahead of the curve.
